Montreux Jazz Festival
Created in 1967 by Claude Nobs, the Montreux Jazz Festival has become a not-to-be-missed rallying point for music lovers all over the world. All the greats have graced its stages, from Miles Davis to Ray Charles, from David Bowie to Prince. The Montreux Jazz Festival has, over time, earned international fame, with its reputation for quality music that is as eclectic as it is unique.
Each year over 230,000 fans come to Montreux to attend paid concerts in the Auditorium Stravinski and Miles Davis Hall. Musical cruises and train rides are also on the programme. In addition, visitors can take advantage of numerous free events: various acoustic concerts, voice and piano solo competitions, workshops, etc. Not to mention the Music in the Park scene and its unique setting on the shores of Lake Geneva. And for night owls, two essential spots: the Montreux Jazz Cafe, where emerging international groups perform and spontaneous jam-sessions are common, and Studio 41, an exceptional “dance floor” house where music is orchestrated by international DJs.
